Applied Tourism

External and Internal Assessment

The course comprises of a mixture of external exams and internal coursework. Students investigate the trends and patterns found in the changing tourism industry, whilst focusing on how tourism can provide opportunities for local people examining a range of destinations around the world. Students will also examine how travel and tourism is promoted to a range of customers through marketing, exploring how tourism activities and destinations are advertised to maintain success.

This course is ideally suited to students who have an interest in a career that involves travelling and working with others, as the applied Tourism qualification develops communication skills, literacy and an awareness of different cultures. The course allows students the opportunity to develop analytical skills that can be used in a wide variety of other subjects.

Where the course leads

Studying an applied Tourism qualification provides you with valuable skills and a firm base for life-long learning. WJEC Applied Diploma in Tourism qualification is highly regarded by universities and employers, with the wide range of skills that it provides students with. This course would provide the appropriate skills for a career in hotel or tour management, events management or a holiday representative.

Entry requirements

Students should be eligible to follow the Route B Pathway. To study Tourism within the Sixth Form, you should also have an interest in the World around, be hard-working and enthusiastic.
