Year 10 Netballers

The 10 girls had their district netball tournament where they put up a very valiant effort. This was the first game the girls played in a while, but you could not tell, as they gel so well as a team. Alice as always was consistent throughout each game. She is such a solid defender, very agile, always makes tremendous interceptions which often turns the game around, she is a formidable opponent and gives any goal attack a hard game. Olivia, as goalkeeper has grown in size and now towers over most of her opposition, making it difficult for them to shoot, or get the rebounds.
Trina helped get the ball out of defence and also made some lovely interceptions. Sophie also played wing defence and her tight marking made it difficult for her wing attack to get free. Leah holds the centre court together, linking attack to defence, being centre she has to sprint up and down the court relentlessly, marking her player and putting good feeds into the shooters. Immy was free a lot of the time to help get the ball successfully to the shooters, her centre passes were good when she received them, and she was always in space.
Lucy was player of the tournament and was popping goals in from all around the circle for fun, she has a beautiful shooting technique, makes mincemeat of a lot of good defences, and really kept us in lots of the games. Cerys worked hard on holding her space, keeping the goalkeeper away from the edge of the circle, to allow Lucy to have free rain, and shoot from anywhere. They work very well together in the circle.
They won their first game, which was close against QE, 7V5 their second game was against Canford, and although Canford looked very good, when we played against them, they did not run away with the game. We put up a good fight, and narrowly missed out at getting a point for half their score, we lost this 10 V4.
The next match was the crunch match, against Ferndown, who had the tallest goal attack of the tournament, although Alice did a good job making life difficult for her, her height, and shooting, was hard to defend. We were ahead throughout most of the game, but Ferndown pulled it back and we drew 7V7. Going into the last game, we knew our place in the semi-finals depended on goal difference.
The girls really played their socks off, and we won against Poole high school, comfortably, 15V2 however, sadly, this was not enough, and we missed out by two goals on goal difference, meaning Ferndown qualified ahead of us. We came third in our group, and fifth in the overall competition, which was a very valiant effort. The girls should be proud of themselves.
