Wessex Amazing Book Award

Some year 7 and 8 pupils enjoyed a morning out to Shaftesbury School to take part in the Wessex Amazing Book Award final.
They have been reading a shortlist of amazing books since October, each nominated by a book group in a Dorset school. For the final they joined with those other schools for a morning of discussion, presenting and voting. They also enjoyed a celebratory cake and a talk by Gillian Cross, Carnegie award winning author, probably most famous for ‘The Demon Headmaster’ series. Our pupils excelled themselves in mixing with the pupils from other schools, carefully and thoughtfully discussing their chosen books, and presenting them in an articulate manner. A wonderful way to increase so many academic, communication and personal skills, all by reading some books!
