Year 7/8 Handball Dorset Youth Games

This team of girls have worked really hard over the last few weeks since their exciting qualifier. The team consists of both year 7 and year 8 girls who have only recently started playing handball.

The first match against Wey Walley was a great start, they girls were fired up and from the off there was no stopping them. Tactically they had this game in the bag totally outplaying their opposition. They won this game 8-3.

The next game totally threw the girls. They are used to tactical play and came up against Allenbourne who virtually man marked and because of this gained a few interceptions and scored from them. The girls lost this game 6-3.

Gillingham was another close game with Sophie in defence saving some amazing goals she kept the score down but unfortunately again this game was a defeat 4-7.

Never for one minute did the girl’s heads go down and still on a massive learning curve they still wanted to win. All fired up they faced Lockyers and played their best game. Top scorer Holly Humphries continued to get the ball in the back of the net by whatever means necessary along with Jasmine Nadaf. They won this game easily 8-4. The girls played fantastically, their team work and work rate was incredible and it was really pleasing to see they all working together and playing some beautiful handball.

The final match was against Glenmoor who were unbeaten all tournament. This team were well drilled and had girls who played for Phoenix handball club. They were a force to be reckoned with. Our girls were not intimidated and showed complete resilience. The first 5 minutes of the game were relatively close until Winton got into their stride surged forward. We lost this game 10-1.

Our points meant we played in the 3rd 4th place against Allenbourne. The girls knew what they needed to do and how to break down this team. However Allenbourne man marked our top goal scorers out of the game and we unfortunately lost this game 8-4.

The girls came 4th overall in the competition and they should hold their heads up high and be proud of themselves. This team have only been training together for 3 weeks and have made such huge improvements to their game. They were a credit to themselves and the school, well done!!!
