Year 10 Football Result – Purbeck School 6 Swanage School
The year 10 football team made an exceptional start to the season against local rivals Swanage, scoring three goals in each half. Sixteen students were involved in total including two girls (Keira and Mollie) playing for the boy’s team for the first time and 100% exceeding expectation.
Purbeck started strongly, keeping the ball incredibly well and creating chance after chance with Brandon and Jakub both coming close on two separate occasions. Then after some excellent battling from Finn in midfield, he laid the ball off to Jakub on the edge of the box who struck the ball low into the bottom corner (1-0). After some more intense pressure and excellent build up play down the right-hand side, Jakub drilled the ball across the six-yard box to Leon at the back post to score with his torso. A goal is a goal no matter how you score it (2-0). On the stroke of half time, Cory put in a massive tackle on the right-hand side, laying the ball into Jayden who struck the ball aimlessly at goal. With pressure paying off, the Swanage goalkeeper let the ball trickle through his legs! 3-0 at half time.
After ringing the changes, ensuring every student played at least a half, Purbeck continued to dominate possession and chances created. Noah took over dominance in the midfield, driving forward at any opportunity, with Joe supporting him well continuously breaking up play to set Purbeck on the attack. Debutant Mollie, faked to shoot and cut the ball across to Cory, who buried the ball into the bottom corner (4-0). Pressure then continued to build with chance after chance. Brandon hit the woodwork, before Mollie had one cleared off the line by a last-ditch Swanage defender. Eventually after a goal mouth scramble, the ball fell to Brooklyn who drilled the ball home to make it 5-0. After some excellent work by Noah down the left-hand slide, he slid the ball through to Corey who scored his second of the game making it 6-0. Purbeck continued to apply the pressure, but to no quantitative end.
Man of the Match was very easy to decide, with David Taylor being superman like in the air, controlling the game directly from the back and in general leading by example alongside ever so present captain Jayden Dalby. Bring on St Edwards in the coming weeks.
