UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge 2020
The results are in! At the beginning of February, selected Year 9, 10 and 11 students completed the Intermediate Maths Challenge paper organised by the UK Maths Trust. The papers are designed to stimulate mathematical problem solving, encourage learners to think outside-the-box and apply mathematical skills learnt in lessons to sophisticated conundrums. Three students were awarded Gold certificates, nine students were awarded Silver and twelve students achieved Bronze.
A special mention goes to Finn Wilde for achieving a Silver certificate and the highest score in Year 9, closely followed (two marks behind) by Thomas Swain who also gained a Silver certificate. Furthermore, Jazmin Astells and Charlie Orchard (both Year 10) have qualified for the Pink Kangaroo with Joe Daly (Year 11) qualifying for the prestigious Maclaurin Olympiad. Both papers are due to be held in March. Congratulations to all of the students who took part, an excellent effort was made by all!
A massive thank you also goes out to the parents who continue to support their children in their academic and extra-curricular endeavours. Why not try one of the questions yourself? A question from the 2019 paper is below. The answer is underneath – try not to peak!
