UKMT British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1

On December 2nd 2021, Joe Daly participated in the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1. This competition is a follow-on round to the UKMT Senior Mathematical Challenge. As well as challenging high-scorers from the Senior Mathematical Challenge, the British Mathematical Olympiad is an entry point to the training and selection programme for international competitions. It is a 3.5 hours challenge that involves students solving 6 questions in total. Full written solutions were required, with complete proofs of any assertions made. Marks were awarded based on the clarity of a students mathematical presentation.

This week, Joe’s results were released. He achieved a Certificate of Distinction for his efforts – a fantastic achievement. As a result, The Purbeck School have entered him into British Mathematical Olympiad Round 2. This competition will take place on Thursday 27th January. In this round, Joe will be provided four questions to solve within 3.5 hours!
