True Life Conference

On 7th December Year 12 & 13 Sociology students attended a ‘True Life Conference.’ This was a chance for students to develop their understanding of crime and deviance for their A-Level paper through engagement with reformed criminals. Students were able to hear first-hand about the factors which caused the criminals to offend, their experiences of the justice system including prison education, differing categories of prison and the challenges now facing the criminals going through adult life with a serious criminal record. Students felt that this had been “an amazing and eye-opening day” and particularly enjoyed the afternoon session which allowed them to ask the criminals about anything they were curious to know or understand following the earlier presentations. Students will be able to draw on the things they have seen and heard at this conference throughout Year 13 Sociology.
