The GCSE Countdown

Dear parent/carer

The countdown continues – we have only now 8 school days before the start of the Easter holidays and then we are into the final full half term of Year 11’s in school. This coming week sees more examinations with the Music GCSE performance exam – this will be a chance for Music students to show off their musical talent and I am sure they will do themselves proud.

This week I have a video for revision which I think if followed correctly could be a powerful tool for revision. Spaced revision is thought to be one of the key ways in which a student can improve their memory and retention of information. The video uses a technique where students make flash cards containing key information and shows how they can use the cards over a number of days so that the information is retained in their long term memory (the section from about min 3-5 is the best to watch).

Here is a link to the video:

Another key way in which you can support your child through their revision process would be for you to test them on key flash cards – if a student can effectively explain what is on a flash card then there is deeper understanding of an issue than just recall.

I hope you find these tips of some use and I will write again next week.

Kind regards
