Students welcome the Wareham Branch of the Royal British Legion
On Monday, the school received a visit from the Wareham Branch of the Royal British Legion. A group of Year 10 students (Isabelle Wright, Sophie Francis and Ella Lewis) presented them with a card that they had designed and created to be displayed on a wreath commemorating the Fallen of the First World War.
The wreath will be taken to Ypres in Belgium by the British Legion in August and laid in a ceremony at the Menin Gate Memorial. The wreath-laying will form part of the Royal British Legion’s ‘Great Pilgrimage 90’: commemorating the Grand Parade of 1928 (90 years ago) when 10,000 members visited Ypres to pay their respects.
The students felt honoured to be involved, both in representing the local community and in remembering the sacrifices made by local people in the First World War.
