Sponsoring students in Africa: can you help?

Last year Purbeck School staff and parents raised enough money to sponsor the education of six children from financially vulnerable families. Without our sponsorship, the children would not have been able to attend The Excel School in Rwamagana, Rwanda, and have their uniform and meals paid for. As in the UK, and especially in such a poor country as Rwanda, having an education makes a huge difference to the life chances of an individual.

We met the six children (aged between 4 and 7) on our visit to Rwanda last month. They are Alia, Nadine, Bruno, Alan, Lindah and Bella – pictured below with our students. All of them are making great progress.

Already since our return, staff and parent friends associated with our previous trip have raised the £630 to pay for the education of these children again next year.

We hope to raise enough to sponsor another two children.

Can you help?

It costs £10 to sponsor a child for one month, and every £5 will be so gratefully received. If you feel able to help us help real Rwandan children and their families, please send cash or a cheque in an envelope marked ‘Rwanda sponsorship FAO Simon Holmes’ and payable to The Purbeck School. Please do add your name and contact details. Even £2 will provide a very real contribution.

With best wishes,

Simon Holmes
Assistant Headteacher
