A BTEC in Travel and Tourism allows students the opportunity to develop their understanding of different countries, cities and tourist resorts around the World. You will learn about one of the fastest growing and dynamic industries on the planet, focusing on how tourism destinations are managed and advertised.
This brand new course at the Purbeck School will challenge you to really investigate destinations that you may have previously known little about. You will be given the opportunity to work in groups and carry out field learning to find out more about some of the very different tourist locations around the World.
The course comprises of a mixture of external exams and internal coursework; as well as, an internally assessed synoptic task. Students investigate the trends and patterns found in the changing tourism industry, whilst focusing on how tourism can provide opportunities for local people examining a range of destinations around the world. Students will also examine how travel and tourism is promoted to a range of customers through marketing, exploring how tourism activities and destinations are advertised to maintain success.
This course is ideally suited to students who have an interest in a career that involves travelling and working with others, as the BTEC in Travel and Tourism develops communication skills, literacy and an awareness of different cultures. The course allows students the opportunity for field learning and to develop analytical skills that can be used in a wide variety of other subjects.
