Severe weather update regarding school transport

Dear parents/carers

There will be no Dorset school transport available tomorrow or Friday due to the expected weather systems coming in.  Please see the full statement below.  If you have any further questions please contact school transport 01305 224545.

At present the school will remain open – although this is obviously something that is under review.

Therefore, if you have a son or daughter who can walk to school or is brought in by car the school will be open as usual. If the weather deteriorates during the day to a position where the safety of students and staff may be in question then the school will close and students will be asked to leave the site.

Please can you ensure that if your son or daughter attends school tomorrow they are either able to walk home or that you can pick them up if there is the need to shut the school.

If you have a child in Year 11 please be assured that the English speaking exam and the GCSE Food Tech exam will be rearranged for them.

I would advise you to keep our website under review and we will post an update tomorrow morning. If we close during the day we will send out text messages and update the website as soon as possible as we normally would.

Thank you for your understanding,

Adam Darley
Headteacher
The Purbeck School

DCC Statement

Dorset County Council has taken the decision this afternoon, to cancel school transport to and from schools for this Thursday and Friday due to Storm Emma. This includes school buses, SEND buses and taxis.

We have not taken this decision lightly but have made it in the best interests of children’s safety. The most severe weather is forecast to hit at around 2pm Thursday so the homeward journeys would be very difficult, especially for rural routes, which are not on the gritting network.

This decision is based on information from multiple sources which all indicate that the weather is going to be severe tomorrow and possibly into Friday, across Dorset.
