School closed Friday 1st February

Dear parents and carers,

I regret to advise you that Dorset County Council have made the reluctant decision to cancel transport for all schools across the county tomorrow, due to the Amber Weather Warning issued by the Met Office for snow and ice. For this reason, we feel that we have no alternative but to close the school to all students tomorrow.

The decision has not been taken lightly by the local authority but they decided that, in the best interests of students and staff, it was a sensible precaution. The local authority felt that many journeys into school tomorrow would be very difficult due to the icy conditions which would prevail even if the snowfall is lighter than currently predicted.

The school will be open on Monday as usual, unless the local authority’s advice is to remain closed. Please check the school’s website over the weekend and early on Monday morning for any updates.

If your son or daughter is currently in year eleven, we would strongly suggest that tomorrow is used for revision for their GCSE examinations. This is an excellent opportunity for them to consolidate their learning at home and use or create revision materials.

There is a scheduled Health and Social Care GCSE examination tomorrow for some year eleven students between 8:50am and 11am; this examination will still be taking place and students should attend school for this examination if they can do so safely. This is an external GCSE examination that students have been studying for in their lessons. Should your son or daughter miss this examination, there will be an opportunity to take this examination in May though sitting the examination tomorrow is regarded as being more beneficial for students as they have been preparing for this examination from the start of the academic year.
