Purbeck U14’s Through To Dorset & Wilts Rugby Semi-Final
After a convincing win against Corfe Hills School 25-5 last week, Purbeck went into their Dorset and Wilts quarter-final oozing with confidence. With a full squad of 20 players, their were options all over the pitch with huge competition for places.
The boys started strongly from the kick off turning over the ball quickly from the kick off, working through the faces before Lewis Reeves drew his man and put Kyle Cavendish in the clear to score. Budmouth then responded valiantly, but the formidable Purbeck tackling in their defensive line held strong. After a long clearance kick from Jamie Foskett followed by an excellent kick chase, Sam Bowen found the ball in his grasp to score his first of many. Five minutes later, some excellent anticipation from Declan Jang saw him score under the posts for his first ever try for Purbeck. One more try from Sam Bowen before the break pretty much secured the victory by half time. 28-0.
Purbeck were relentless in the second half, with the tackling and turnover play being a specific highlight despite ringing the changes at half time. Sam Bowen was on target again for two more tries, one of which was an excellent team try assisted by Kian Salina. The best try was saved until last though. With Purbeck under pressure on their own try line, Oscar Meaker stole the ball after getting onto his feet and releasing the tackler effectively. Ollie Peters spread the ball wide to find Jamie Foskett who sprinted through a gap on the right hand touch. With an extremely quick full back coming across, Jamie chipped and chased, and alongside a lucky bounce completed an outstanding try.
The boys have really come on leaps and bounds this season and the inclusion of some exceptional year 8’s (Freddie Tozer, Tom Munns and Charlie Orchard), they are going to be a real force to reckon with in the rest of this competition. The victory secures their place in the Semi-Final of the Dorset and Wilts Plate which will take place after half term.
Well done to all boys involved, your season is really starting to shape up. Games coming up include: Ferndown, St Edwards, Blandford and Clayesmore!
