Purbeck Student’s Amazing Anderson Shelter Fundraising

Year 9 student Ben Hall has raised almost £2,000: and still he sleeps on!

The Purbeck School’s Ben Hall appeared on Good Morning Britain this morning, after coming to national attention by building an Anderson Shelter and sleeping in it in order to raise money for the Dorset Air Ambulance. The project started off with an idea from a tour guide in Belgium who suggested to the enthusiastic Ben that he build a trench system at home. As, understandably, Mum Hall was not overly keen to dig up the garden, Ben suggested he instead construct an Anderson Shelter and the plan was agreed. Enlisting the help of his step-dad and sister Emily, Ben took to work and, as you will see in these pictures, he has accomplished his mission!

Ben plans to sleep in the shelter until he returns to school after inhabiting his new quarters for a month already.

The Dorset Air Ambulance, as featured in the recent coverage of an incident at nearby Durdle Door, costs approximately £3000 a flight. Ben has already raised £1884 and would welcome further donations at: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-display/showROFundraiserPage?userUrl=BenHall59&pageUrl=1#

The interview on GMTV marked an impressive month for the Hall family as older sister Emily also featured on Twitter interviewing current members of the English women’s football team. Well done to Ben and Emily!
