Pupil Premium Laptops
Pupil Premium Guarantee – Application for a personal laptop
Dear Parent,
Over the past year, we have experienced two lockdowns and national school closures. The government has announced funding to support children and young people to catch up on missed learning caused by coronavirus (COVID19). This is especially important for the most vulnerable pupils and pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds who we know have been most affected. The next year is going to be extremely important for all students as they continue their studies and catch up on lost time.
As part of our Pupil Premium guarantee, students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10, who are in receipt of Pupil Premium can now apply to be provided with a personal laptop. The purpose would be for use outside of school, to aid with home and remote learning. The Pupil Premium scheme applies to students in receipt of free school meals, service children, and those who are or who have previously been in local authority care. Further details on The Purbeck School’s Pupil Premium Strategy can be found on our website at www.purbeck.dorset.sch.uk/information/pupil-premium.
Laptops are provided with a standard Windows 10 operating system, which includes Windows Defender anti-virus. Should you choose to further protect your device, The Purbeck School has partnered with ESET to offer a 50% discount on their award winning anti-virus software – further details are available on the school website at https://www.purbeck.dorset.sch.uk/50-off-eset-anti-virus-software/. Office software is not provided; however, students can access online versions of the Office 365 applications via their web browser. Ownership of the device will be passed to the student on collection.
Each device will be provided with a short manufacturer’s warranty, which should be registered upon receipt via the manufacturer’s website. Please note that the school will be unable to assist with device repairs, and responsibility for maintenance will lie with the new owners.
If required, the school can install Smoothwall web filtering software on the device, to provide some safeguarding of students when accessing the internet at home.
