Opera comes to The Purbeck School

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as Purbeck School students performed their version of Verdi’s ‘Nabucco’. Over 40 Purbeck students, alongside members of the Dorset Opera worked tirelessly over just one week to write, choreograph, and then perform the opera in front of over 200 parents, patrons, governors, specially invited guests, and students.

Everyone agreed that the Opera was a stunning success and there were some superb solos from Locryn Kelly (Y8), Ellie Webster (Y9), Rylan Stafford (Y9) and Megan Bennett (Y8).

Headteacher, Mr Darley, commented that ‘in 20 years of teaching I have never seen anything like that from the students I have been involved with. I am so proud of their achievement, they were quite simply, brilliant’. This was echoed by many of the audience, and there were tears of emotion from some, such was the effect of the Operatic performance.

Mr Darley went on to thank Dorset Opera, who had worked with the students all week, he said, ‘the professionalism and the passion shown by the Dorset Opera team is something that you have to see to believe, they have enthused the next generation, and I hope that they can come back in the future to work again with the students.’

Well done to all involved!
