Message from the Headteacher

Dear Parent/Carer

I wanted to write with a quick update as we move towards the end of the first half term.

It has been lovely this half term to be getting back to something approaching normality. We have been able to hold our first competitive sports fixtures since the start of the pandemic, run local trips, and have guest speakers in. Alongside that, we have been able to start practical lessons again for subjects such as Food, Science, and Drama. As always, our students have approached the new school year with enthusiasm, application, and good humour.

A couple of dates for the diary: We will be holding our 6th Form Open Evening on 25th November and the following day the school will be closed as it is an Inset day.

As you will be aware, the region has seen a bit of a spike in positive Covid cases over the past couple of weeks, and we have not been immune to that. The natural break that half term brings will hopefully allow us all to reset. To try and ensure that this break is as effective as it can be in reducing Covid cases we are reinstating face coverings as of Monday November 1st. As before, we will ask that the masks are worn between lessons and in corridors, not in lessons, or in the social areas. This policy will be in place for two school weeks and we will then review.  Alongside this, can we ask that all students take a lateral flow test before returning to school.

Following this correspondence there will be another one for all parents/carers of students aged 12 or 13. They will be invited to have a Covid vaccination at Wareham hospital. The school will not be hosting any Covid vaccinations as they will all be done via the local NHS. We will keep you informed of where and when these vaccinations are available for subsequent age groups. The school will be hosting the flu jab for students in the week following the half term break; you will have received details of the consent form for this earlier in the week.

I would also like to take this opportunity to publicly thank all the teaching and support staff at the school who once again have shown their professionalism and commitment throughout this half term.

I hope that everyone has a peaceful and restful half term break.

Take care
