Key dates for Year 11 students

Dear Parent/Carer,

As you will be well aware we are now reaching a critical time for Year 11 students as we enter the final push towards the GCSE exams.  For the next six weeks I hope that every Year 11 student is able to focus on their revision so that they can achieve the very best that they can.  Of course this can be a struggle but it is imperative that in this short time Year 11’s put their social lives, and their phones! to one side so that they are fully committed to the challenges ahead.

I wanted to take this opportunity to pass on some key dates as it will be busy time for Year 11 in the coming weeks.

A week on Friday (11th May) we have our traditional Smart Day for Year 11 where there is an opportunity for them to ‘dress to impress’.  Year 11’s will be briefed on the dress code for the day and if you have any uncertainties then please contact the school.  The day is a normal school day with the addition of a special Year 11 assembly during the day led by their tutors. This is always a lovely occasion and has become quite a tradition at The Purbeck School and something that students look forward to each year.

We are then moving into the exam season with the first exams starting on the Monday 14th May. There are then exams throughout the rest of this half term (half term begins on Friday 27th May) and then the following two/three weeks following the half term.  We are running normal school lessons up to and including Friday 8th June, attendance to school is compulsory until this date. After this date students will only be expected to turn up for their examinations and lessons will not be run for them, however, there will be revision rooms established for Year 11 students if they are in school before or in between exams.  Exam results day will be Thursday 23rd August.

I hope these dates are helpful for your planning, a full list of the examination dates for each subject area can be found on the website and students will have individual exam timetables at their disposal.

Can I take this opportunity to thank you for your continuing support of the school and your son/daughter during this important time and can I also wish your son/daughter the very best of luck in the coming exams.

Yours sincerely,

Adam Darley
Headteacher
