At The Purbeck School we believe that all children are entitled to an education that will enable them to develop their full potential, be that intellectual, physical, aesthetic, creative, emotional, spiritual or social.

The Purbeck School is committed to providing a sufficiently challenging curriculum for all its students. In addition we will provide opportunities to identify and, in turn, nurture those who are more able to aim high, aspire and be successful.

We understand the phrase ‘higher and advanced performers’ to refer to the top 5-10% of our pupils as measured through both actual and potential achievement.

Management

The higher and advanced performance coordinator will add students to the school’s higher and advanced performance register and circulate all new entries to all staff. The school’s register is on an excel spreadsheet in staff documents high and advanced performance.  SIMS will also be updated with the information.

The higher and advanced performance coordinator should meet with the line manager for higher and advanced performance once a fortnight. Minutes of these meetings will circulate to the head teacher and SLT. An annual report is completed and presented to the governing body.

Staff Training

The higher and advanced performance coordinator is responsible for keeping staff up to date with the latest information on high and advanced performance. There is a nominated higher and advanced performance champion in each department who is responsible subject specific and generic resources.

Whole School Issues

There is a nominated governor for higher and advanced performance.

There is no specific budget for higher and advanced performance provision. However the higher and advanced performance coordinator does apply for grants to assist with running clubs and events.  Most of the university events are free.

Higher and advanced performance issues are included on the agenda for staff meetings at least once a term.

This policy is due to be reviewed in January 2016 by the higher and advanced performance coordinator and linked senior leader in consultation with the Headteacher.

Enquiries should be made in first instance to the higher and advanced performance coordinator.
