Important update on Examination grading from Ofqual

Dear Parent/Carer,

Today Ofqual have announced how they are intending to award grades this summer for both GCSE and A level.

The link to the statement from Ofqual is here:

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/how-gcses-as-a-levels-will-be-awarded-in-summer-2020

Ofqual have also issued a message specifically to students – the link is here:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/gcses-as-and-a-level-awarding-summer-2020

As a school we will now take this guidance into consideration.

Can I please ask that all parents/carers and students take into account the message from Ofqual that:

‘Schools and colleges have been told that they must not share their centre assessment grades with students, parents or carers, under any circumstances, until after final results are issued. This is to protect the integrity of centres’ judgements, and to avoid anyone feeling under pressure to submit a grade that is not supported by the evidence.’

Therefore, under no circumstance will any teacher at the school be able to discuss any recommendation around the awarding of a grade.

I know that this is a very stressful and concerning time for all students who are due to receive their examination results this summer, but I can assure you that as a teaching body we will approach this process with professionalism and compassion.

Yours faithfully,

Adam Darley
Headteacher
The Purbeck School
