Headteacher update

Dear Parent/Carer

We now know that we will not be fully back in school until March 8th. At that point I suspect that there will be a phased return in some way – we will have to wait for further announcements. Alongside this, the consultation for the examinations for year 11 and 13 completes today, so again we can expect an announcement on this in the near future. That said, it is reported that they have received over 90,000 submissions, so it may take some time!

As we will not be returning after half term, we wanted to do something slightly different on the days of Monday 8th, and Tuesday 9th February. On those dates we will suspend our normal live lessons and run virtual Tutor consultation days. Work will still be set for students, but it just will not be live. You will be asked to book in for a 10-minute virtual consultation with the Tutor or House Leader between 10am and 3pm. The consultation will be an opportunity for a discussion around wellbeing, access to technology, engagement with online learning, and if necessary, look for solutions to any issues that have arisen. We hope you agree that this will be valuable exercise, and we will be sending out details of how to book your slot early next week.

The live learning continues to showcase some excellent learning. This week the ‘Lockdown Learner of the Week’ is Mabel Whiting for her superb contributions to English lessons. Well done Mabel – enjoy spending the voucher!

Some of you have been asking if there are extra resources for reading during the lockdown. The school website has some excellent links to websites that make some recommendations for books for young people. This link will take you to our ‘literacy’ page on the website, and at the bottom of that page there are lots of links to literary sites.

Thank you again for all your support with the learning at home, it is proving to be more of a marathon than a sprint!

Take care
