Football Match report – Year 11 v Thomas Hardye School
The Year 11 football team got their season off to a winning start with a solid 2-0 win at home to Thomas Hardye.
The first half saw some tidy football played by both teams which made for an entertaining encounter. Despite soaking up a little early pressure it was Purbeck that made the breakthrough as Lewis Knapman chased down a long ball from Jack Delves. The Hardye’s defenders contributed to their own downfall with a catalogue of errors due to the pressure that Lewis had put them under, presenting an excellent opportunity to the centre forward which he duly converted.
The lead was quickly doubled when a clearance from a corner fell to Declan Keates around the half way line, who picked out Harry Hewitt at the back post with a sublime 50 yard pass that even David Beckham would have been proud of; Harry took one touch, shrugging off a defender and finished excellently into the far corner.
The remainder of the first half was reasonably even, however Purbeck should probably have added to their lead.
The second half became a little more fragmented due to a number of changes from both teams but it was really pleasing to see Purbeck keep a clean sheet and importantly win the game despite not quite being at their best.
An excellent start to what we hope is going to be a very successful season for the boys.
Well done chaps!
