Bath Spa University lecturer visits students at Purbeck
As an early precursor to our Careers Fortnight, this week Dr Elaine Wainwright, lecturer of Psychology at Bath Spa University, gave a very informative and engaging presentation to Year 12 and 13 students of Psychology. Dr Wainwright gave an insight into the many fascinating topics studied by undergraduates at Bath Spa, and also provided information about subjected-related careers which include academic research, counselling and therapist occupations, as well as other jobs from which individuals benefit through degree study of Psychology at Bath Spa and other institutions. Dr Wainwright emphasised the need for students applying to read any subject at university to check that the course is accredited as this is vital in terms of future career opportunities.
The talk also gave an insight into some of the real research methods that have been employed to investigate areas such as physical pain and its impact upon individuals’ ability to concentrate and perform particular tasks. We also learned about a range of equipment and facilities that students most benefit from accessing when an undergraduate, and numerous interesting examples from Bath Spa were provided.
Following the presentation a number of students have expressed a genuine interest in pursuing the study of Psychology at degree level – this in addition to those who had an existing desire to do so. We would like to thank Dr Wainwright for taking the time to visit Purbeck and share such inspiring insights.
