A big thank you and an appeal for your help

Dear Parents/Carers,

Over Christmas we received wonderfully colourful cards from the five students at The Excel School, Rwanda, whom we sponsor please see the pictures below. I think you’ll agree that the students, who are now 7 years old (we have sponsored them for three years) are clearly very grateful for their educational support and, for a second language, their English is flourishing. Thanks to everyone who contributed!

Over the next half term I will again be collecting donations from staff, students and parents to support the (now) five children through another year of schooling.

It costs only £150 to support one child for a year of primary education (The Excel School gains the highest final marks in the Rwamagana district). In addition to their education, families are funded for a daily meal for the child and a full uniform.  These families are the poorest in Rwamagana and, as Rwanda remains rurally impoverished, through our support we are helping some of the most vulnerable people by transforming the life chances of the young. I know this matters to you who value education so highly.

We need to raise £750 to continue to support our five children; it may be that we can add another. As in the past I would like you to consider contributing £15 towards our sponsorship, although gifts of £10 or £5 will be so very much welcome also. I will again provide everyone who helps with a certificate; just seeing the thank you cards below will give you an idea of the difference that you’ll be making. Donations can be in cash or by cheque (The Purbeck School) and be handed in at the school office or to myself. Alternatively, you can use BACS sort code 089290 acc no 70123205 using the reference ‘Rwanda’. You can contribute either now or (it has been Christmas after all) in February.

A huge thanks on the behalf of Allan, Alia, Bruno, Nadine and Lindah. Let’s do this again.

Best Wishes
Simon Holmes
