School Criminology students paid a visit to Poole Magistrates Court.

On Wednesday 16th July, a group of Purbeck School Criminology students paid a visit to Poole Magistrates Court. Despite terrible traffic, Mrs Scott got us there with time to spare.
Long-standing magistrate, Caroline Foster had already been into school to talk to the students about the way the court works. Before cases began, she arranged for the legal advisor, prosecutor, usher and one of the three magistrates to talk to the students about their roles. She was also able to provide a commentary about what the court was doing whenever there was a break in proceedings.
We stayed in court for over two hours, seeing a range of cases from assault to drug driving and it was interesting to see first hand the speed the courts work and the backlog of cases that they are up against. A very interesting morning indeed.
